If generalization is bad then why does sociology exist ?

Generalization isn 't always "bad", it depends on what basis the generalzation is made. If I were to say for example, "Sociology exists so that liberal college professors don't go hungry", that would be an unfair (to some ) generalization. But if I said, "Most of the African American men in jail grew up in single parent homes, that would be an accurate generalization.
