Emucompboy's answers to the original question are correct but the note afterward is wrong. You have to stop being so human-centric ;-) Random mating occurs in all sorts of species that release one or both gametes into the environment rather than doing mate selection. Sponges, sea urchins, many corals building organisms, and wind pollinated plants are all examples.
