Christmas present crochet pattern?

Ok, I'm wanting to crochet a scarf for my boyfriend. Thing is, he's never really worn one before so I'm anxious about color and pattern. I want to make one that he'll wear, not go "oh gee thanks" and hide in his closet. Does anyone have a simple crochet pattern. Key word: simple.
