What is the easiest way of finding out if a shroom is poisonous or psychedelic without having to buy anything?

Also how did the Ancient Aztecs and Indians and stuff do it? I don't want to buy a field guide or any really expensive things like a microscope or things I don't know how to use. Therefore, I must find more natural/less expensive/easier ways.
